Dr. Steven D. Stark Biography
Dr. Steven D. Stark’s professional career has been marked by repeatedly breaking new ground in the field of sports medicine and biomechanics. He is the first and only podiatrist in the province of British Columbia, Canada, to specialize in sports medicine and to be appointed to the Sports Medicine Council of British Columbia.
Dr. Stark opened the Podiatric Sports Medicine Group in Richmond, B.C. in 1986. This medical practice specializes in the treatment and prevention of injuries that are the result of biomechanical problems. His success has been based on treating patients by using a better biomechanical approach to joint misalignment and muscle imbalances.
The response to Dr. Stark’s work has been overwhelming, attracting patients from all over Canada, the United States, and as far away as Great Britain, South America, the Caribbean and Japan. He has helped both amateur and professional athletes with the correct stretching techniques that have eliminated training errors, resulting in less injury, enhanced performance, and prolonged careers.
Born in New Mexico, raised in Texas; Dr. Stark holds a Bachelor of Science and a Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine degree. He completed a three-year post-graduate surgical residency at the David Grant USAF Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in California. He immigrated to Canada in 1980.
Dr. Stark has been involved in sports all his life. He was an amateur and professional boxer for almost ten years. As an amateur he boxed for the USA national team in 1967, and his last professional fight was at the Forum in Los Angeles in 1972. After his boxing career, he devoted his attention to his first love, horses, becoming a professional trainer until he entered medical school. He still owns and trains horses, and works with horse rescue societies helping them rehabilitate abused and neglected horses. Dr. Stark continues to be an active swimmer, cyclist, and works out at a fitness club routinely. He is a firm believer that the only way to stay healthy and active is to exercise and most importantly – to stretch properly !
